Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos held a live broadcast last week via his Instagram account answering questions sent by the fans of his club. Among other things, Giannakopoulos openly accused EuroLeague management of “stealing money” and personally attacked CEO Jordi Bertomeu.
According to Eurohoops sources, a disciplinary proceeding against Panathinaikos was opened for those statements made last week. According to EuroLeague bylaws, the verdict of this proceeding is expected to be public when there’s a decision by the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Judge.
There has been a long history of conflicts between EuroLeague and Panathinaikos with the most recent episode being last summer’s press conference, in which Giannakopoulos announced that he intends to sell the team and hopes to see it competing in the BCL in the future.
